About The Position

Pacific Coast Trane is the San Francisco district office representing the Trane Company that manufactures, manages and services HVAC equipment systems and controls. We are currently seeking a Field Engineer to join our BAS Controls team in Sunnyvale, CA. This role involves developing and supporting controls databases, graphics, programming, and sequences of operation, as well as performing controls system startup, commissioning, and point-to-point checkout activities. The Field Engineer will also support installation personnel, coordinate with other trades, troubleshoot issues, and configure/support computer systems and network communications related to building automation systems. Additionally, the role includes providing technical input for various project phases, maintaining accurate project documentation, ensuring software backups, and offering ongoing service and support for existing building automation systems. The Field Engineer will also support facility personnel with operational issues and maintain high-quality customer service.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of DDC controls and HVAC systems/operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints, electrical schematics and diagrams, and sequence of operations documentation.
  • Understanding of common HVAC and electrical codes including California Title 24, ASHRAE Guideline 36, and applicable local and national codes.
  • Experience with programming and controls logic development.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Working knowledge of AC power systems including breakers, multi-phase power, and 120VAC and higher voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Bluebeam, and Smartsheet.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Tridium Niagara and/or Trane building automation systems preferred.
  • Possess advanced technical understanding of DDC systems, HVAC operations, and building integrations.
  • Demonstrate leadership within project teams and mentor developing personnel.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, programming, and operational support for complex building systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support controls databases, graphics, programming, and sequences of operation based on project specifications, design documents, and engineering direction.
  • Perform controls system startup, commissioning, and point-to-point checkout activities on assigned projects.
  • Verify proper operation of alarms, annunciation, devices, equipment, and control panels.
  • Support installation personnel during project execution and startup activities.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other contractors and trades on job sites.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve installation, programming, and operational issues during static and dynamic commissioning.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support computer systems and network communications related to building automation systems.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving building operational issues that extend beyond controls systems.
  • Provide technical input and support for estimating, design, installation, startup, commissioning, and owner training activities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including daily logs, startup reports, checkout sheets, commissioning records, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure timely software backups and version management for all assigned projects.
  • Provide ongoing service and support for existing building automation systems to maintain efficient and code-compliant operation.
  • Support facility personnel and building engineers by assisting with operational issues, optimization, and system performance improvements.
  • Maintain high-quality customer service and professional communication throughout all project phases.
