Field Diesel Mechanic - Customer Equipment
About The Position
As a Field Diesel Mechanic – Customer Equipment Solutions (Service Tech IV - Field Service - CES), you will perform maintenance and repairs on complex equipment, particularly customer-owned equipment, with limited or no supervision and in a highly skilled, safe, and professional manner. You will provide exceptional customer service and may have opportunities to work toward leadership roles in the Service Department. The role involves traveling to customer job sites, maintaining a clean and professional service vehicle, completing work-order documentation, demonstrating and upselling equipment, and assisting with equipment and parts pickup and delivery. The position is designated Safety Sensitive under United Rentals’ policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- At least 5 years of experience repairing or maintaining equipment and tools.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
- Knowledge of construction equipment and a strong mechanical background with various engines.
- Advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
- Must own tools applicable to the position.
- Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 45 lbs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on rental and customer equipment and tools, using independent judgment.
- Travel to customer job sites to repair and maintain customer-owned equipment.
- Maintain the service vehicle in a clean and professional manner.
- Assist in training lower-level technicians as needed.
- Complete paperwork and electronic documentation of work performed, including work orders, accurately and promptly each day.
- Upsell and demonstrate a wide array of complex equipment to customers.
- Assist with pickup and delivery of equipment and parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
