About The Position

The Fiber Technician is responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic cable systems supporting telecommunications infrastructure. This role works across Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) environments to ensure high-quality, standards-compliant fiber network deployment and service continuity.

Requirements

  • 1–5+ years of fiber optic installation and/or splicing experience
  • Experience in OSP and/or ISP environments
  • Proficiency with fusion splicing equipment and OTDR testing
  • Ability to read construction prints and fiber schematics
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoor environments
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights or travel

Nice To Haves

  • FOA or CFOT certification
  • Experience working on carrier or large infrastructure projects
  • Bucket truck or lift certification
  • Knowledge of industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI)

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, and secure fiber optic cable in aerial, underground, and building environments
  • Perform fiber pulls through conduit, innerduct, and handholes
  • Install fiber enclosures, splice cases, patch panels, and termination hardware
  • Support new builds, upgrades, and maintenance projects
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber
  • Prepare and terminate fiber optic cable to required specifications
  • Read and interpret splice diagrams, schematics, and fiber matrices
  • Maintain splice loss within acceptable tolerance levels
  • Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing
  • Identify and resolve signal loss, breaks, or continuity issues
  • Document test results and update as-builts
  • Perform network turn-up and system validation
  • Adhere to OSHA, company safety, and client-specific standards
  • Maintain proper handling of fiber materials and equipment
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting for compliance and close-out
