About The Position

At MasTec Communications Group, the Fiber Splicer helps build end-to-end fiber optic networks while delivering high-quality service in a safety-minded environment. The role involves testing and troubleshooting fiber optic network continuity, operating testing equipment, resolving common network challenges, and preparing fiber splice enclosures. The Fiber Splicer also uses knowledge of fiber design, documentation, light levels, and dB loss. Work takes place at outdoor utility construction sites, and the position may involve varied shifts and overtime.

Requirements

• At least 3–5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience.
• Comfort working on a ladder or in a bucket truck.
• Safety-minded approach to work.
• Track record of completing work to a high quality standard.
• Ability to solve challenging problems and take a hands-on approach.
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts and overtime.
• Ability to work with a team in hands-on environments.

Responsibilities

• Produce end-to-end fiber optic networks.
• Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks.
• Operate testing equipment and resolve challenges common to fiber optic networks.
• Prepare fiber splice enclosures, including Tyco, CommScope, and Corning enclosures.
• Use fusion splicers and fiber testing equipment, including OTDR, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, and power meters.
• Apply fiber engineering knowledge, including fiber design, reading documentation, understanding light levels, and dB loss.
• Work at outdoor utility construction sites.
