Fermilab Computational Science Internship (FCSI) is a graduate internship program for students majoring in computer science and related fields who are interested in working at a national science research laboratory. Interns gain understanding of and experience with Fermilab’s computing for high energy physics while assisting with laboratory research and development efforts to explore and enable the use of state-of-the-art tools and technology for the benefit of the science community. The program runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027. Work is onsite, Monday through Friday, for 40 hours per week. The program pays $1,000 per workweek for Master’s students in year one, $1,050 per workweek for Master’s students in year two, and $1,100 per workweek for PhD students. Airfare, housing, and transportation are paid by the program when the intern’s permanent address is more than 50 miles from the host laboratory. Interns are expected to deliver an oral presentation. Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university graduate program in computer science or a related field, have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be eligible to work in the United States. Application dates are November 3, 2026, through January 18, 2027. Offers are made February 18, 2027, with acceptance due February 25, 2027. Applications require an online application, a resume, and an unofficial transcript. An offer is contingent on successfully completing a background check and drug screening.
