About The Position

The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is seeking a Family Time Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) to join their Office of Child Welfare team in Albany. This role focuses on ensuring children can spend quality time with their families, offering unique and adaptable workdays. The position is crucial in supporting ODHS's vision for transformation within the Child Welfare Program, aiming to enhance the safety, health, well-being, and reduce trauma for Oregon's vulnerable children and young adults.

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting; OR An associate degree in any field; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience providing administrative support by coordinating schedules, managing correspondence, and maintaining accurate and organized records.
  • Experience documenting observations, client interactions, and case-related information accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Experience applying trauma-informed practices when interacting with or providing services to individuals who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds to provide information, coordinate services, or accomplish shared goals.
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds while adapting communication or service approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Experienced in managing crisis situations through effective de-escalation, teamwork, and trauma-informed communication to ensure safety, reduce conflict, and support positive client outcomes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to ensure children's safety, which may involve running, bending, lifting, or other physical interventions.
  • Must be able to make prompt decisions to help maintain a safe environment.
  • Must be able to testify in court regarding professional documentation, observations, and interactions with children, families, and others involved in a case.
  • Must be able to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and have this verified by E-Verify.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and record information from caseworkers, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools, and other relevant resources to plan family time visits.
  • Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines, suggesting community resources as needed.
  • Supervise family time in an office or community setting, documenting relevant information to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Assist with transporting children and parents/guardians to family time visits and other necessary appointments.
  • Work closely with caseworkers to assess family time supervision details, recommend services for case planning, and relay important information about children and their families or caregivers.
