About The Position

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Family Time Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) to join their Child Welfare (CW) team in Hillsboro. This role is crucial for ensuring families can spend quality time together, making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families. The position is bilingual, requiring duties to be carried out in both English and Spanish, with potential for differential pay upon passing a language proficiency test. The Family Time Coordinator will work within the Child Welfare Program to support the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation, aiming for children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma, and achieve greater well-being.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting.
  • An associate degree in any field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience building collaborative partnerships with community organizations and providing culturally responsive, customer-focused services to diverse populations.
  • Experience interacting professionally and effectively with individuals of diverse identities, cultures, ethnicities, and abilities while promoting equitable and inclusive services.
  • Experience building rapport with clients and effectively responding to emotionally escalated or crisis situations using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches.
  • Experience maintaining accurate, timely, and objective case documentation, including observations and case notes, using electronic case management systems.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history and background check.
  • Must be able to pass an FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal records check.
  • Must complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and will be confirmed by ODHS using E-Verify.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and record information from caseworkers, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools, and other relevant resources to plan family time visits.
  • Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines, suggesting community resources as needed.
  • Supervise family time in an office or community setting, documenting relevant information to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Assist with transporting children and parents/guardians to family time visits and other necessary appointments.
  • Work closely with caseworkers to assess family time supervision details, recommend services for case planning, and relay important information about children and their families or caregivers.
