About The Position

The Family Strengthening Services Specialist I provides short-term, in-home and community-based support to families identified as low-risk and referred through Child Welfare Intake (CWI), Child Welfare Services (CWS), or Voluntary Case Management (VCM). This role focuses on engaging families, strengthening parenting skills, and connecting families to resources to promote stability and well-being.

Requirements

  • Four-Year College Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency, social work, psychology, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution required.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working with families experiencing child abuse and neglect issues.
  • Valid driver’s license, current no-fault insurance coverage, satisfactory driver’s abstract, access to an insured vehicle.
  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and use of personal vehicle to transport family, as needed, as well as a willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island
  • This position is subject to a criminal background investigation, and continued employment is contingent on a record clear of convictions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach and home visiting services to assigned families
  • Conduct intake and comprehensive family assessments to identify strengths, needs, and risk factors
  • Engage families in developing Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) and service goals
  • Deliver education and coaching on parenting, child development, stress management, nurturing relationships, and family functioning
  • Connect families to appropriate community resources and support services
  • Advocate for families and assist them in navigating systems to access needed services
  • Provide transportation to medical, legal, and social service appointments, as appropriate and with supervisory approval
  • Maintain communication with referral sources regarding family participation, including cases where families cannot be located or decline services
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, including progress notes, service plans, mileage logs, and required reports
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information in accordance with agency policies and professional standards
