About The Position

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health, wellness, safety, and inclusion across far west Ottawa. Since 1986, WOCRC has supported individuals and families through a wide range of community, social, and health services designed to strengthen and empower the communities we serve. Our programs support children, youth, families, newcomers, seniors, and individuals experiencing crisis or social isolation through counselling, housing and violence against women services, community development initiatives, health promotion, and family support programming. POSITION SUMMARY: The Family Resource Worker coordinates and delivers programs and services that support the needs of parents / care providers and children birth to 6 years in the communities of Kanata, West Carleton and Stittsville, within the scope of practice as mandated by the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE). The position supports the Centre-wide and strategic level health promotion and community development activities, including community assessments and program evaluation activities, within the scope of practice as mandated by the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE). This is a part-time temporary position at 28 hours a week, with an expected start date of late July 2026 to November 1, 2026 with the possibility of extension and opportunities to move into a casual relief position. The Salary is pro-rated to reflect 28 hours a week starting at $39,458 per annum or $27.10 per hour.

Requirements

Post-secondary diploma in early childhood education with current registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
Two years’ experience in an early learning environment, working with children, parents and care providers.
Experience working in partnership with other early years providers in a service integration framework.
Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act
Knowledge of Ontario Early years Framework
Knowledge of Early training for Every Child today (ELECT)
Knowledge of “How does Learning Happen” Pedagogy
First Aid and CPR training
Experience with and sensitivity to minority groups, people of different age and income groups and an awareness of the issues that affect rural populations
Demonstrated ability to work independently in remote locations
Demonstrated autonomy and initiative
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment
Demonstrated ability to work within an Equity inclusion framework.
Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
Familiarity with Data Management Systems
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
Requirement to work flexible hours (daytime, evenings, and weekends)

Responsibilities

Develop playgroups and activities for children
Promoting child development and encouraging parent/ care provider-child interaction;
Using the recreational resources available in the community;
Managing and coordinating the planning of the playgroups and activities;
Using modeling for the parent/ care provider in the relation with the child;
Ensuring the parent/ care provider understands the reason and the impact of the activities;
Presenting activities in a dynamic and stimulating fashion for the child, in collaboration with the parent/ care provider;
Ensuring integration and adaptation of children and parent/ care providers.
Assist parent/care providers to increase their awareness of child development
Providing information and referral to parent/care providers;
Providing education services for parent/care providers through workshops and other training opportunities;
Supporting parent/care providers in identifying their needs;
Assisting parent/care providers to identify their strengths and limitations to help improve their child’s and their own quality of life;
Linking and referring care providers to other programs offered by the CRC and other community organizations.
Coordinating and delivering early learning programs and services throughout our communities, including rural, in local schools and in the EYC;
Planning programs that will sstimulate interest and curiosity through collaboration with parent/care providers, placement students and volunteers;
Providing support and training to volunteers as required;
Creating a sense of program ownership and engagement with parent/care providers as well as with partnering organizations
Developing, coordinating and delivering programs and services that are aligned with community needs, trends and gaps based on client feedback and data such as EDI and Census data as well as in consultation with partnering organizations;
Performing program evaluation in collaboration with participants, volunteers and partners;
Maintaining and developing professional competence and quality assurance through appropriate continuing education methods; to support both family resource worker and community development role and responsibilities;
Reporting data using the CRC data base (CIMS) to support funder reporting requirements;
Providing information for the web-site;
Serve as ambassador to ensure that services are accessible, and the general public is informed regarding EYC services
Promoting participation of parent/care providers, and the community, in activities designated to educate and/or advocate for healthy child development;
Work in collaboration with the Communications department to develop promotional and marketing strategies to increase awareness of our programs and services
Participating in community groups regarding issues and services relevant to the 0 – 6 population;
Contributing to the creation and distribution of materials and resources related to the activities of the EYC;
Establishing and maintaining links with community groups and agencies to facilitate a positive working relationship.
Providing training to community groups and/or participating in community events to promote programs and services;
Preparing and presenting awareness training and care provider focused information sessions in partnership with other services;
Keeping up-to-date with the Continuous Professional Learning Program of the CECE.

Maintaining awareness of and compliance with WOCRC policies and procedures;
Maintaining awareness of and compliance with funder requirements, policies, procedures and regulations;
Working in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risk in keeping with Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures.
Supporting the Centre’s student and volunteer placement programs.
Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
