About The Position

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre (WOCRC) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health, wellness, safety, and inclusion across far west Ottawa. Since 1986, WOCRC has supported individuals and families through a wide range of community, social, and health services designed to strengthen and empower the communities we serve. Our programs support children, youth, families, newcomers, seniors, and individuals experiencing crisis or social isolation through counselling, housing and violence against women services, community development initiatives, health promotion, and family support programming. POSITION SUMMARY: The Family Resource Worker – Casual Relief is responsible for delivering programs and services that support the needs of parents’ / care providers and children up to 6 years old in the communities of Kanata, West Carleton and Stittsville.

Requirements

Post-secondary diploma in early childhood education, child and youth worker or equivalent in training
Two years’ pertinent experience in an early learning environment; working with children, parent and care providers
Experience working in partnership with other early years providers in a service integration model/framework
First Aid / CPR training
Strong critical analysis, problem solving, planning and decision making skills
Excellent relationship building skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently in remote locations
Demonstrated conflict management and resolution skills
Ability to develop and implement programs using an inter-disciplinary collaborative approach
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment
Demonstrated ability to work within an equity inclusion framework
Knowledge of social services delivery in Ottawa
Ability to communicate fluently in English, spoken and written
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
Access to a vehicle
Available to work at different sites

Responsibilities

Deliver playgroups and activities for children
Promoting child development and encouraging parent/ care provider-child interaction
Using the recreational resources available in the community
Delivering, on an on call basis, programs and services including playgroups and activities
Using modeling for the parent/ care provider in the relation with the child
Ensuring the parent/care provider understands the reason and the impact of the activities
Presenting activities in a dynamic and stimulating fashion for the child, in collaboration with the parent/care provider
Ensuring integration and adaptation of children and parent/care providers
Assist parent/care providers to increase their awareness of child development
Providing information and referral to parent/care providers
Providing education services for parent/care providers through workshops and other training opportunities
Supporting parent/care providers in identifying their needs
Assisting parent/care providers to identify their strengths and limitations to help improve their child’s and their own quality of life
Linking and referring care providers to other programs offered by WOCRC and other community organizations
Develop and maintain the EYC program
Deliver, on an on call basis, early learning programs and services throughout our communities, including rural, in local schools and in the EarlyON CFC
Providing support and training to volunteers as required
Creating a sense of program ownership and engagement with parent/care providers as well as with partnering organizations
Deliver programs and services that are aligned with community needs, trends and gaps based on client feedback and data such as Child Status Index, Early Development Instrument and Census data as well as in consultation with partnering organizations
Performing program evaluation in collaboration with participants, volunteers and partners
Maintaining and developing professional competence and quality assurance through appropriate continuing education methods; to support both family resource worker and community development role and responsibilities
Recording data on the delivery of services (e.g. attendance sheets and membership forms)
Serve as ambassador to ensure that services are accessible and the general public is informed regarding EarlyON CFC services
Promoting participation of parent/care providers, and the community, in activities designated to educate and/or advocate for healthy child development
Distribution of materials and resources related to the activities of the EarlyON CFC

Working in a manner that incorporates health promotion and recognizes the determinants of health
Maintaining up-to-date professional skills and knowledge through formal and informal training
Acting as an “ambassador” for WOCRC within and outside the Centre by creating an awareness of WOCRC programs and promoting services offered
Compliance with all mandated legal/regulatory requirements related to working at WOCRC (Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety, standards of professional conduct)
Maintaining awareness of and compliance with WOCRC policies and procedures
Maintaining awareness of and compliance with funder requirements, policies, procedures and regulations
Working in a manner that preserves confidentiality and seeks to minimize risk in keeping with Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures
Supporting the Centre’s student and volunteer placement programs
Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre
Perform other related duties as assigned
