This role is part of a supportive team that sustains Mokami’s Supportive Living Program (SLP), offering care, connection, and consistency within a trauma-informed, harm reduction framework. Housing Support Workers (HSWs) contribute to a circle of care that centres empathy, dignity, belonging, and safety for women and gender-diverse people who call Mokami home. HSWs help foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where residents feel respected and supported. They meet residents where they are at, offering support that is responsive to individual needs, strengths, and readiness. HSWs walk alongside residents in identifying and working toward goals that are meaningful to them, supporting autonomy and choice. As part of a casual relief team, HSWs provide coverage across shifts as needed, contributing to consistent, wrap-around support for residents. They help maintain continuity of care and relationships, even when stepping into different shifts or schedules. HSWs offer and support access to programming that builds connection, life skills, and well-being. They use compassionate communication, de-escalation, and mediation to both prevent and respond to crises, always grounding their work in respect, understanding, and relationship.
