About The Position

Actively Seeking Physician colleague to help revolutionize tribal health. WCHS is in the process of converting to a more effective model of primary care consistent with the best practices of patient centered, relationship centered, proactive, team based primary care. We are early in the journey and are looking for a physician who desires to be a key part of this revolution in practice. We are also starting down a three-year journey to create a rural residency program to train new primary care physicians in this more effective model of care with significant emphasis on culturally appropriate care. We are in the planning phase of a major remodel of our primary care space to create physical space that better supports this integrated model of care. Our vision is to elevate the health of our community to match or exceed that of any Tribal population in the country. Concurrent and consistent with our advancement of primary care we are in the planning phase of building a 70,000 sq ft wellness center attached to the main campus. We are convinced that the combination of these efforts with excellent acute care and an ongoing culture of innovation and outcomes focus provided in profound partnership with public health and community services will make our vision a reality. This position provides comprehensive health and medical care services in the full scope of Family Medicine practice from pediatric to geriatric care. Prenatal care is not required but preferred. The physician requires the recognition and knowledge of diseases and injuries, which require referral including those which are difficult to discover or identify. Assumes responsibility for the diagnosis, prevention, therapy, maintenance and rehabilitation of patients in the capacity of a senior attending or expert.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited school in the United States approved by a recognizing body in the year of the applicant’s graduation, or a Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a foreign medical school which provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the Unites States. All foreign medical school graduates must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG) or a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country.
  • Active and unrestricted state license in any US jurisdiction recognized by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).
  • Completion of a Residency Program in Family Medicine in an institution accredited for training in Family Medicine by a recognized body of the American Medical Association or AOA.
  • Board Certification preferred however Board Eligibility is a requirement.
  • May be required to provide clinical oversight and supervision of Physician Assistants.
  • May also be asked to preceptor medical students/residents.
  • Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs.; lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.

  • Prenatal care is not required but preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and is able to demonstrably meet the goals, standards and expectations WCHS and TCUH core mission, vision, and values in a culturally competent and empathic manner, recognizing the centrality of the doctor patient relationship in clinical care delivery.
  • Recognizes and accepts the active role of an active medical staff member of TCUH to actively and meaningful participate in elevating the level of patient centric, high quality, safe care consistent with the quadruple aim of health care delivery.
  • Acts as a professional at all times, demonstrating the key attributes of a professional including: altruism, accountability, duty, honor and integrity, and respect for others. Serves as an active member of the TCUH medical staff as an emergency department and hospitalist physician. Adheres to Medical Staff bylaws and all policies, rules and regulations of WCHS, TCUH and any employment agreements.
  • Provides direct medical services to patients involving the performance of diagnostic, preventive, or therapeutic services in patients in outpatient clinic, urgent care clinic and hospital.
  • Prescribes or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat, prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Orders, performs, interpret tests, analyze records and reports, and analyzes information to diagnose patient’s condition.
  • Collects, records, and maintains patient information such as medical history, reports, and examination results.
  • Monitors patient’s condition and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
  • Explains procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments as necessary.
  • Coordinates work with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other allied health professionals in the provision of a variety of health services. Be a collaborative resource for providers in the primary clinic.
  • Serves on various committees of the medical staff as designated by the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and patient engagement activities as required.
  • Additional duties as required consistent with training and education.
