About The Position

Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement invites applications for a full-time Faculty of Mathematics to join the Department of Informatics and Mathematics in August 2027. With twelve colleges and schools, Mercer University has a Carnegie Research II classification and offers a vibrant academic community committed to student success and academic excellence. The advertised position in the College of Professional Advancement will be based at one of Mercer’s metro-Atlanta campuses and includes a seven-course teaching load spread across four accelerated 8-week sessions throughout the nine-month academic year in addition to research expectations and service responsibilities. The Department of Informatics and Mathematics is an interdisciplinary academic unit serving students in information technology, software development, human-computer interaction, data science, and related areas. The Department also has the mission to support the University’s General Education curriculum and provides mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with an active scholarly agenda and a desire to contribute to the life of the Department, College, and University by serving a working-adult student population.

Requirements

Terminal degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Computational Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the PhD has been obtained.
Demonstrates the ability to translate teaching excellence in mathematics into courses with various formats, including face to face, online, and hybrid, in an accelerated format.
Complete a brief online application and attach required documentation including a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness, if available, and names and contact information of two references.
Finalists for the position will be asked to have three current letters of recommendation sent directly to the Office of the Dean.
The successful candidate must submit official transcripts prior to employment.
Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Foundational and college-level mathematics teaching experience, especially teaching students from diverse academic backgrounds, especially adult and post-traditional learners.
