About The Position

Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement invites applications for a full-time Faculty of Mathematics to join the Department of Informatics and Mathematics in August 2027. The Department of Informatics and Mathematics is an interdisciplinary academic unit serving students in information technology, software development, human-computer interaction, data science, and related areas. The Department also has the mission to support the University’s General Education curriculum and provides mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with an active scholarly agenda and a desire to contribute to the life of the Department, College, and University by serving a working-adult student population.

Requirements

Terminal degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Computational Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the PhD has been obtained.
Demonstrates the ability to translate teaching excellence in mathematics into courses with various formats, including face to face, online, and hybrid, in an accelerated format.

Nice To Haves

Foundational and college-level mathematics teaching experience, especially teaching students from diverse academic backgrounds, especially adult and post-traditional learners.
Experience or interest in innovative discipline-specific mathematics curriculum design.
A passion for teaching mathematics and using creative, responsible approaches, including emerging technologies, to enhance student learning.

Responsibilities

Seven-course teaching load spread across four accelerated 8-week sessions throughout the nine-month academic year.
Research expectations.
Service responsibilities.
Provide mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs.
Contribute to the life of the Department, College, and University.
