About The Position

Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Faculty of Mathematics to join the Department of Informatics and Mathematics. The Department of Informatics and Mathematics is an interdisciplinary academic unit serving students in mathematics, information technology, software development, human-computer interaction, data science, and related areas. The Department also has the mission to support the University’s General Education curriculum and provides mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs. This nine-month faculty position includes a seven-course teaching load spread across four accelerated 8-week sessions during the academic year, in addition to research expectations and service responsibilities. The position will be based at Macon or one of Mercer’s metro-Atlanta campuses. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with an active scholarly agenda and a desire to contribute the life of the Department, College, and University by serving a post-traditional student population.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Computational Mathematics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • Ability to translate teaching excellence into courses with various formats, including face to face, online, and hybrid, in an accelerated format.
  • ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor until the PhD has been obtained.

Nice To Haves

  • Foundational and college-level mathematics teaching experience, especially teaching students from diverse academic backgrounds, especially working-adult and post-traditional learners.
  • Ability to teach mathematics and statistics courses for an M.S. Data Science Program.
  • A passion for teaching mathematics and using creative, responsible approaches, including emerging technologies, to enhance student learning.
  • Experience in innovative discipline-specific mathematics curriculum design.

Responsibilities

  • Support the University’s General Education curriculum and provide mathematics instruction for students across a variety of academic and professional programs.
