About The Position

LaGrange College seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in Religious Studies beginning August 1, 2027. The field of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach Christian ethics and broader philosophical approaches to ethics including Bioethics and possibly business ethics and the ethics of AI, as well as candidates prepared to contribute in areas such as American Christianity or world religious traditions. The teaching load is four (4) courses per semester, including introductory courses, upper-level electives in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization, and courses that satisfy the college’s general education curriculum, known as Ethos. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the major in religion and help create interdisciplinary approaches to critical analyses of American culture and society. The position includes the supervision and mentorship of undergraduate research projects in the field. The religion program maintains a close relationship with the Candler School of Theology at Emory University; students interested in a future ministry career will find a direct and accelerated pathway from LaGrange College to the Candler School of Theology. Through both a solid grounding in theory and engagement in the field (via internships, collaborative undergraduate research, and other opportunities) Religious Studies students receive a thorough, intensive, and experiential education in the discipline. The program’s historic engagement in LaGrange College’s undergraduate research program affords students the opportunity to work directly with faculty on research projects that build their professional skills. The college values its relationship with the United Methodist Church and in particular its commitment to the Wesleyan ideal of service.
