Facility Operator - East Chicago
About The Position
The Facility Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a vertical grinding mill and cement terminal, supporting high-quality production and customer satisfaction. The position involves operating, monitoring, and maintaining milling and support equipment; keeping assigned work areas and equipment clean, organized, and safe; conducting material quality assessments; maintaining inventory; and overseeing related logistics and documentation. The role includes daily interaction with internal and external customers and stakeholders. The work takes place in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment and may involve high heat, confined-space entry, possible gas exposure, dust, noise, changing temperatures, and work at heights or outdoors. Personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols and OSHA standards are required. Physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, handling tools and materials, driving, and lifting at least 50 pounds several times a day. Long and flexible hours may be necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficient computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn applicable product quality and safety standards.
- Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work long and flexible hours as necessary.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds several times a day.
- Ability to perform maintenance duties in tight spaces and maneuver around plants, yards, and jobsites.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods.
- Ability to operate equipment controls and perform job tasks involving walking, climbing, standing, bending, and handling tools or products.

Responsibilities
- Operate the vertical grinding mill and cement terminal on a daily basis.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment, bins, carts, and containers, and maintain equipment storage to protect inventory.
- Coordinate logistics, scale ticketing, stockpiles, and inventory management.
- Operate mobile equipment as required.
- Use hand, power, and specialized tools as required.
- Troubleshoot machinery and equipment during operational and non-operational periods.
- Maintain records of work performed and parts replaced.
- Perform routine material quality-control tests and sampling procedures.
- Ensure products and samples are labeled correctly and clearly.
- Manage inventory and generate appropriate reports.
- Visually inspect jobsite conditions and identify solutions or recommendations to correct problems.
- Maintain safe jobsites and working conditions.
- Perform daily mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Ensure proper maintenance and operation of fixed and mobile equipment.
- Maintain orderly site housekeeping and compliance with applicable standards.
- Apply continuous-improvement practices to tasks and duties.
- Participate fully in the company safety program.
- Maintain regular attendance and physical presence at work.
- Perform additional duties as needed to meet business needs.
