Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Fulfill all duties related to his/her assignment as directed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the United States Department of Justice. This includes, but is not limited to, all policies in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, and Bell County Juvenile Services policies and procedures. Must have the ability to work with a diverse population. Conduct searches as required to control contraband. Always maintain his/her appearance and appropriate professional behavior. Facilitate movement of residents, staff, partners, and contractors within the facility grounds. Conduct resident transports off facility grounds. Schedule/facilitate resident appointments on and off the facility grounds. Serve as a liaison between the facility and medical provider(s). Serve as the point of contact for out of county detention youth. Serve as detention liaison for Department Field Services Unit. Coordinate and manage the resident visitation schedule(s). Develop and provide programming to detention residents. Develop and coordinate resident Large Muscle Activity and recreation schedules. Manage facility supply inventory. Conduct security checks for individuals seeking entrance into the facility. Provide breaks for primary posted JSOs. Conduct 1:1 supervision and observation for High Risk Suicide youth. Perform functions of Facility Rover as needed. Provide supervision for residents who are placed temporarily away from the facility grounds that remain in custody. Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Department Chain of Command to include but not limited to the Court, the Supervisor, Assistant Director, or Chief Juvenile Probation Officer/Director.

Requirements

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have no disqualifying criminal history.
  • Have no criminal history as described in §344.410(a) unless TJJD has reviewed it and determined the person is not ineligible for certification due to the criminal history.
  • Have acquired a high school diploma or its equivalent as specified in TAC§344.204.
  • Never have had any type of certification revoked by TJJD.
  • Complete the training required by TAC§344.
  • Pass the certification exam to be completed after employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.

Nice To Haves

  • Requires Juvenile Supervision Certification-to be obtained after employment.
  • Requires CPR/First Aid certification– to be obtained after employment.
  • Requires Handle with Care Certification– to be obtained after employment.
