About The Position

The Joseph "Eddie" Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center is a 156-bed long-term care facility in Hanson, Kentucky, committed to serving Kentucky’s Veterans by fostering independence, preserving dignity, and providing compassionate care. The Facility Maintenance Worker II performs general maintenance work and coordinates employees’ work while assisting the supervisor with maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, and eligible for overtime pay. The position is located in Hopkins County and includes a locality premium of $2.88 per hour. A fingerprint-supported national background check will be conducted before an offer of employment. The agency is prohibited from hiring employees with convictions identified in 906 KAR 1:190. The position has an initial and promotional probationary period of six months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

Requirements

• One year of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience.
• Formal training in one of the listed or related fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must follow applicable safety procedures, including using eye and ear protection when operating certain mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate employees’ work and assist the supervisor with maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Perform janitorial duties to maintain buildings and adjacent areas.
• Maintain and repair plumbing, sewerage systems, electrical systems, and associated equipment.
• Make carpentry repairs to buildings and equipment.
• Maintain grounds, primarily through lawn mowing and trimming.
• Paint and complete special projects related to the upkeep of buildings.
