About The Position

The Facilities Technician performs on-demand, corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance on the organization's building systems, including commercial HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, building automation controls, patient care areas, and general facility infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and compliant healthcare environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The technician serves direct facilities support and is expected to independently troubleshoot and repair building systems while coordinating with outside vendors and contractors on specialized repairs and capital projects. This role requires a highly skilled maintenance professional with strong HVAC experience and a broad knowledge of commercial building systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to prioritize multiple work requests in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Proficiency using smartphones, tablets, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, leadership, contractors, inspectors, and vendors
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in HVAC, Facilities Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, or a related trade preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial or industrial facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of commercial HVAC troubleshooting and repair experience preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare, ambulatory surgery center, hospital, or medical office environment strongly preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification preferred.
  • HVAC Journeyman License or equivalent trade certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned facility rounds and inspections each shift to identify maintenance needs and ensure optimal building performance.
  • Maintain accurate preventative maintenance schedules, inspection logs, and repair documentation.
  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment, including rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, chillers, exhaust systems, thermostats, VAV boxes, and associated controls.
  • Perform routine HVAC maintenance including filter changes, belt replacement, lubrication, coil cleaning, and seasonal inspections.
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and mechanical equipment to maintain proper environmental conditions throughout the facility.
  • Diagnose heating, cooling, airflow, humidity, and ventilation issues and coordinate vendor support when repairs exceed internal capabilities.
  • Respond promptly to work requests submitted by staff and provide excellent customer service throughout the organization.
  • Maintain patient rooms and clinical spaces to ensure equipment and building components remain safe, functional, and compliant.
  • Perform general building maintenance including: Drywall repair and painting, Ceiling tile replacement, Lighting repairs and fixture replacement, Plumbing repairs including sinks, toilets, faucets, and drains, Minor carpentry and hardware repairs.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs including outlets, switches, breakers, ballasts, and lighting controls within the scope of training.
  • Assist with maintaining emergency power systems, generators, fire/life safety equipment, and other critical building infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors performing maintenance or construction activities.
  • Assist with facility projects, equipment installations, office renovations, and departmental moves.
  • Support compliance with AAAHC, OSHA, NFPA, CMS, local building codes, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and recommend replacement parts and equipment as needed.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), smartphones, or tablets to manage work orders, document repairs, track labor, and maintain inventory.
  • Participate in emergency response activities related to facility equipment failures, utility outages, or severe weather events.
  • Meet established deadlines and communicate effectively regarding project status, delays, and repair timelines.
