Facilities Technician II
About The Position
Under the general supervision and direction of the Maintenance Manager of Facility Services, the incumbent will perform general mechanical maintenance and repairs primarily within UWSP’s academic properties with the responsibility for maintenance and repair of general building envelope items including windows, doors, walls, flatwork, and roofs. The incumbent will also provide basic remodeling functions including demolition of walls, drop ceilings and flooring as well as installation of carpet tile, VCT tile, ceramic tile and assembly of modular office furniture and office/classroom appliances and fixtures. The incumbent will operate, and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely, perform strenuous physical labor, follow oral and written instructions, and keep daily computerized records. Additionally, the incumbent will prioritize personal workflow, read, comprehend, and work from plans and prints, maintain cooperative working relationships, and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse campus population. The Facilities Technician II is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt, university staff position.
Requirements
- Knowledge in safely operating power tools and hand tools.
- Basic knowledge in replacing VCT/Carpet flooring, drop ceiling tiles, and vinyl base trim.
- Basic knowledge of demolition equipment and required PPE.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills (Need to communicate with customers and supervisors.)
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to keep daily computerized records.
- Ability to prioritize personal workflow.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and work from plans and prints.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for a diverse campus population.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Must supply a minimum of three (3) professional references (one (1) of which being a current or former supervisor).
- Must supply five (5) professional references (two (2) of which being a current or former supervisors) is preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Driver’s License – Must have for 2+ years to be able to drive a state vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
- Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
- Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
- Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
- Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities under general supervision
- Monitor, operate, adjust, maintain, and repair a variety of technical equipment for the campus and to help supply the campus with critical services.
- Stay in touch with industry/system-wide trends and best practices.
- Perform work independently, only referring matters to the supervisor for clarification.
