About The Position

ECS is seeking a Facilities Assessment Senior Project Associate to join our Mid-Atlantic Building Science + Infrastructure team in Pittsburgh, PA. The Senior Project Associate is responsible for providing technical leadership and project management for facilities assessment projects. This is a client-facing role with daily involvement with clients, project teams (e.g., architects, general contractors, engineers, owners) and heavy involvement in project execution and junior staff development. You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality consulting solutions to a diverse range of facilities and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Architecture (NCARB).
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of building science, building enclosure systems, and construction practices.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, materials, and structural or architectural systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and consulting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds multiple times per day, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and perform work at heights.
  • Valid driver’s license required if driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed or certified in at least one of the following preferred but not required: Professional Engineer (P.E.), Registered Architect (R.A.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform facilities assessment and due diligence consulting services.
  • Perform property condition assessments (PCAs), facility condition assessments (FCAs), facility needs assessments, pre- and post-construction surveys, accessibility assessments, and other facilities-related services.
  • Evaluate building systems and components, including structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and life safety systems.
  • Perform document reviews, determine remaining useful life estimates, develop cost opinions, and support capital planning recommendations.
  • Interpret assessment findings, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable ASTM standards, building codes, and industry best practices, including ASTM E2018.
  • Review reports produced by field staff and perform routine site visits to ensure appropriate quality and progress.
  • Manage facilities assessment and due diligence projects from setup through completion.
  • Coordinate project teams and direct site activities with field staff, subcontractors, and senior managers.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedule, scope, and budget objectives.
  • Prepare and review proposals, change orders, budgets, and invoices.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate schedule updates, assessment activities, and potential budget impacts.
  • Communicate project milestones with clients and advise on significant project changes.
  • Interface with clients regularly and lead project meetings and discussions.
  • Present assessment findings, project conclusions, and recommendations to clients.
  • Maintain and develop client relationships and support growth of the client database.
  • Support marketing and business development efforts within the facilities assessment and due diligence practice.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on project execution.
  • Mentor junior staff and supervise personnel performing assessments, surveys, data collection, and report preparation.
  • Coordinate staffing needs with other managers to support project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and field personnel.
  • Direct and oversee field activities performed by subcontractors, technicians, and assessment teams.
  • Prepare facilities assessment and due diligence reports, perform analysis, and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure reports meet professional standards for clarity, accuracy, and technical content.
  • Review and approve reports and deliverables prepared by junior staff prior to Principal review.
  • Lead discussions with clients regarding findings, conclusions, remaining useful life estimates, cost opinions, and recommended actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
