About The Position

The Electric Boat shipyard is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth. Existing facilities are undergoing renovations and new buildings are under construction. The Groton Facilities Engineering department is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for the 110+ year old Groton shipyard, the new facilities under construction, and local sites. Additional activities include designing and executing infrastructure construction projects. Responsibilities for project management include engineering and developing the scope of work, preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing funding, preparing purchase requisitions, safety and environmental compliance, in field project management of vendors and EB personnel while maintaining the project budget, schedule, and documentation. The types of systems and equipment the candidate may be responsible for include water systems (fire protection, potable, sewage), compressed gas systems (nitrogen, argon, oxygen, propane), compressed air systems (high pressure air, low pressure air), boiler and steam systems, HVAC, industrial ventilation, submarine support systems (land based steaming, salt water cooling), waste water treatment plant and water purification plant. Candidate will interface with local building officials, safety, environmental, security, fire safety, maintenance, various EB affected departments depending on project, as well as Naval oversight. Candidate must be self-motivated, be able to work independently, possess good written and oral communications skills, maintain a questioning attitude, as well as be proficient technically with a willingness to continuously learn. Understand and utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and Outlook) and MS Project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Facilities Engineering
  • 0-5 years of post graduate Engineering experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, One Note and Outlook)
  • Proficient in MS Project
