Facilities Project Manager - Mechanical Engineer
About The Position
The Facilities Engineering department at the Electric Boat Groton shipyard is seeking a mechanical engineer to provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for the existing shipyard, new facilities under construction, and local sites. The role also involves designing and executing infrastructure construction projects. The candidate will manage projects from scope development and bid preparation through vendor selection, funding, purchasing, field execution, and project closeout, while maintaining budgets, schedules, documentation, and safety and environmental compliance. The position may involve water, compressed gas, compressed air, boiler and steam, HVAC, industrial ventilation, submarine support, wastewater treatment, and water purification systems. The Facilities Project Manager will coordinate with local building officials and Electric Boat safety, environmental, security, fire safety, maintenance, and affected departments, as well as Naval oversight. The role calls for a self-motivated, technically proficient engineer who can work independently, communicate well, maintain a questioning attitude, and continue learning. Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project are used in the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Facilities Engineering.
- 0–5 years of postgraduate engineering experience.
- Able to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Maintain a questioning attitude.
- Technically proficient and willing to continuously learn.
- Understand and use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, and MS Project.

- Experience in facilities engineering, plant engineering, or construction.
Responsibilities
- Provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for the Groton shipyard, new facilities under construction, and local sites.
- Design and execute infrastructure construction projects.
- Develop engineering and project scopes of work.
- Prepare bid documents and select vendors.
- Secure project funding and prepare purchase requisitions.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance.
- Manage vendors and Electric Boat personnel in the field.
- Maintain project budgets, schedules, and documentation.
- Coordinate with local building officials, relevant Electric Boat departments, and Naval oversight.
- Work with systems and equipment that may include water systems, compressed gas systems, compressed air systems, boiler and steam systems, HVAC, industrial ventilation, submarine support systems, wastewater treatment, and water purification.
