About The Position

Axcelis is seeking Facilities Engineering Co-ops for a winter 2027 assignment at their Beverly, MA facility. This program is designed to develop early career talent and build a pipeline for future Facility Engineers. Co-ops will gain hands-on exposure, work on real projects, and make meaningful contributions. The role supports the Facilities Engineering team in the planning, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of building systems and infrastructure. This position offers hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, utilities, and building automation systems, while assisting with technical projects, documentation, and facility performance analysis. It is ideal for engineering students pursuing a career in facilities engineering, mechanical systems, reliability engineering, or operations support.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Facilities Engineering.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience using tools including hand/power tools, precision measurement and diagnostic tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols (LOTO, PPE, etc.)
  • Works well with others and has a willingness to learn
  • Ability to apply mechanical principles in a real-world environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) items and inspections using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Perform machinery space rounds, equipment rotation, and system monitoring
  • Monitor RO/DI skid, Grade 4I Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Process Water systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting and unexpected repairs of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems with licensed technicians
  • Oversee day-to-day site operation
  • Manage Grounds, Security & Janitorial needs
  • Handle Special events, hazards, and operations
  • Operate and monitor multiple sites using the Building Management System (BMS)
  • Monitor Life Safety systems – sprinklers, fire/toxic alarm systems, toxic exhaust, emergency power distribution
  • Monitor Central Utility Building (CUB) Boiler/Chiller Plant
  • Monitor ICO Classes 4-7 Clean Room HVAC operation
  • Monitor Utilities – water, electric, natural gas, liquid bulk gas tanks
  • Ensure compliance with local/state/federal regulations, inspections & certificates
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Assist with departmental expense and controllable budgets
  • Assist with Master planning and large capital expenditure project budgeting
  • Assist with contracted maintenance agreements
  • Assist with departmental staffing, managing people & leading teams
  • Assist with Corporate goal execution
