About The Position

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is hiring a full-time, regular Facilities Maintenance Worker (CL1/Custodian) to begin immediately. This is an essential third-shift position scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The role pays $18.33 per hour plus a $0.80 shift differential, or the applicable transfer rate for a current employee covered by the Service & Maintenance collective bargaining agreement. On-the-job training is provided. The employee must be able to work during inclement weather and campus emergencies. The position maintains clean and safe campus buildings and surrounding areas. Work includes cleaning interior spaces and exterior areas, operating cleaning equipment, moving items, removing snow, and following safety procedures. The employee may work independently or with a team. A background screening and pre-employment physical will be conducted for the successful candidate. UMPI is located on a 150-acre campus in northern Maine.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver’s license and eligibility to be approved to drive University vehicles under the University’s Driver Administration Policy.
Ability to work during inclement weather and campus emergencies.
Ability to lift and carry sometimes-heavy items and occasionally climb ladders up to 12 feet.

Responsibilities

Use cleaning equipment, such as vacuums and floor machines, and cleaning products safely.
Lift and carry items that may be heavy, including trash, furniture, and equipment.
Shovel snow from building entrances and walkways.
Pick up trash and debris near the outside of buildings.
Clean restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and other spaces in and around campus buildings.
Work independently or as part of a team.
Occasionally climb ladders up to 12 feet.
Follow safety rules and report broken or unsafe conditions.
