The Facilities Interface Engineer (FID) is part of DI’s Engineering department and reports to the Engineering Manager and VP Director of Engineering. The role is accountable for coordinating how exhibit designs interface with host buildings, bridging DI’s design and engineering teams with building owners and project partners such as the Architect of Record (AOR), Structural Engineer of Record (SEOR), General Contractor (GC), and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The position initially serves as a pilot within the Cultural Practice, with the possibility of expanding to other practices. The FID supports assigned lead engineers and project managers and may communicate directly with the AOR, GC, and SEOR on heavily integrated projects. The role builds and maintains a shared CAD/BIM/Speckle coordination model for design and construction coordination; translates design intent into formats usable by project partners; identifies and resolves clashes between exhibits and building systems; and produces facility-interface drawings and permit packages. The FID triages structural scope to identify items that may need stamped engineering, initiates and routes engineering packages, and communicates load information to the facility’s SEOR. The position manages the process for obtaining required stamped calculations but does not perform or stamp them. It also reviews attachment methods, supports permitting and RFI workflows, and provides preliminary engineering assessments for estimating and early project coordination.
