About The Position

The purpose of this class is to perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry and minor building construction and renovation work. This role also assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, developing work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in carpentry, building construction, electrical, other building trade(s) or a closely related field.
At least two (2) years of related work experience.
Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Electrical maintenance and repair certifications desired.

Responsibilities

Supervises crew, including instructing, assigning, reviewing, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, selecting new employees, acting on employee problems, recommending and approving employee discipline, and recommending discharge as appropriate.
Performs or assigns and supervises work in building and equipment maintenance and repair, and landscape maintenance.
Performs general carpentry work for building construction/renovation.
Repairs roofs.
Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical components and equipment, including general electrical wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, light fixtures, ballasts, circuits, and security/ground lights; changes light bulbs.
Repairs mechanical and electrical locks and locking systems.
Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of various plumbing systems and equipment.
Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment; changes air filters.
Provides instruction and leadership to maintenance workers and inmate workers as assigned.
Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed.
Maintains attendance records for payroll timekeeping purposes for state trustees.
Performs all work in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
Runs heavy equipment as needed.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
