About The Position

The purpose of this class is to perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry and minor building construction and renovation work. This role also assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, developing work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in carpentry, building construction, electrical, other building trade(s) or a closely related field.
  • At least two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical maintenance and repair certifications desired.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises crew, including instructing, assigning, reviewing, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, selecting new employees, acting on employee problems, recommending and approving employee discipline, and recommending discharge as appropriate.
  • Performs or assigns and supervises work in building and equipment maintenance and repair, and landscape maintenance.
  • Performs general carpentry work for building construction/renovation.
  • Repairs roofs.
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical components and equipment, including general electrical wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, light fixtures, ballasts, circuits, and security/ground lights; changes light bulbs.
  • Repairs mechanical and electrical locks and locking systems.
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of various plumbing systems and equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment; changes air filters.
  • Provides instruction and leadership to maintenance workers and inmate workers as assigned.
  • Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records on maintenance/repair work completed.
  • Maintains attendance records for payroll timekeeping purposes for state trustees.
  • Performs all work in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
  • Runs heavy equipment as needed.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
