About The Position

Brooklyn Grange seeks a focused, dedicated, and organized Facilities Assistant to join our Design/Build/Maintenance team. This role will support the day-to-day operations of the landscaping team, and will oversee the management, organization, and inventorying of our various storage facilities, which includes plants, garden tools, various garden supplies, and vehicles. The Facilities Assistant will be responsible for managing our storage facilities and nursery, ensuring that plants, tools, and supplies are stored efficiently, and are organized and easily accessible. They will be responsible for tracking inventory, receiving and stocking tools and supplies, and the overall tidiness and cleanliness of storage areas. They will also be responsible for nursery management, including receiving and organizing plants from nursery deliveries, reorganizing the nursery as needed, and removing plants that are no longer viable. The Facilities Assistant will also assist the maintenance and installation teams as they return to our headquarters with loading and unloading company vehicles at the end of the workday. The Facilities Assistant should be comfortable working independently and must be prompt and clear when communicating with the Design/Build/Maintenance team. This position requires strong organizational and time management skills, and a familiarity with plants, tools, and garden supplies. They will also model and help ensure a culture of kindness, respect, support, and inclusivity for our team.

Requirements

  • Has proven experience in garden supply, retail, or warehouse operations
  • Is highly organized and systems-oriented, with an eye for efficiency. Enjoys improving upon systems, protocols, practices. Can multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Knowledge of proper storage and handling of plants, tools, and other garden-related products.
  • Is self-motivated and independent, has a strong work ethic, and can learn quickly.
  • Is a clear communicator
  • Can lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, and can squat, kneel, bend over, & reach for extended periods of time.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Can operate electric and manual pallet jacks

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the maintenance and installation teams by packing and unloading tools, supplies, and plants into company vehicles at the end of each work day.
  • Drive and park company vehicles at the end of the workday and ensure any vehicles needing repairs are brought to and from the mechanic
  • Lead the organization, cleaning, and upkeep of the Design/Build/Maintenance team’s facility spaces, including tool storage, plant nursery, and vehicles
  • Pick up and return box truck rentals
  • Receive and organize deliveries, including plants, tools, and gardening supplies
  • Track and report material inventory so new materials can be ordered to ensure inventory levels are maintained
  • Continuously evaluate facility processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that increase efficiency and reduce costs.
