About The Position

This paid Summer Helper role provides essential operational support to the facilities team. Summer Helper will spend approximately 75% of their time performing routine, hands-on maintenance tasks (general upkeep, repairs, material handling, painting) and about 25% assisting with scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and basic troubleshooting of building systems and fabrication equipment under direct supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to 32–40 hours per week for the summer term.
  • Comfortable performing physical labor (lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, standing for extended periods).
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools; willingness to learn safe tool/equipment operation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow directions and written checklists.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous maintenance, custodial, groundskeeping, or construction experience.
  • Coursework or interest in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical trades.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep tasks, including Change HVAC filters, replace light bulbs and ballasts, and swap ceiling tiles.
  • Basic carpentry and painting touch-ups; minor plumbing and fixture replacements.
  • General building and grounds cleanup, moving materials, and assisting with facility setup/teardown.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and equipment rounds
  • Support senior technicians on scheduled PMs (filters, belts, lubrication, visual inspections).
  • Perform basic measurement/logging and update maintenance records.
  • Assist technicians with troubleshooting and repairs:
  • Observe and assist on diagnostics of HVAC and other building systems under direct supervision.
  • Follow simple troubleshooting checklists and report findings to the lead technician.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Complete paperwork and electronic logs for work performed.
  • Follow all safety policies and participate in required training sessions.
