About The Position

Southland Industries is seeking a Fabrication Shop Foreman to schedule, coordinate, supervise, provide leadership, and ensure the safety and productivity of a small work crew. This role may act as a management liaison and/or designated client contact. The Foreman will facilitate a safe work culture, ensuring crew members adhere to safety standards and are fit for work. Responsibilities include conducting weekly safety talks, participating in safety investigations, ensuring a clean and organized work area, orienting new crew members, assessing crew competency, assigning tasks, coordinating on-the-job training, setting work standards, and promoting teamwork. The Foreman will also perform related craftwork, understand project plans, ensure daily and weekly activities meet production goals, identify and secure necessary tools and materials, translate work requirements into prioritized plans, review and adjust schedules, advise the superintendent of shortages, and work with the crew to overcome challenges. Additionally, the Foreman will resolve or report scheduling conflicts, ensure completed work meets standards, recommend process improvements, ensure adherence to job specifications and blueprints, inspect completed work, prepare reports, maintain a foreman's log, ensure daily Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed, assist the superintendent with production and progress reports, and maintain accurate timekeeping records. The role also involves recommending personnel actions and performing additional assignments as needed.

Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent.
• 5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson.
• OSHA-30 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire).
• An active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for individuals performing and supervising work in this field.
• Employment is contingent upon active membership in the appropriate local trade union.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate a safe work culture and ensure crew members adhere to safety standards.
• Conduct weekly safety "toolbox" talks and answer technical safety questions.
• Participate in safety/incident investigations and complete safety reports.
• Ensure the work area is consistently clean, safe, and organized.
• Orient new crew members and assess their competency and capability.
• Assign individual and crew tasks and coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices.
• Set and maintain work standards and outline behavioral expectations.
• Promote, support, and facilitate teamwork.
• Perform related craftwork along with the crew.
• Understand project plans and schedules, ensuring the crew meets production goals.
• Identify and verify required tools and materials are available.
• Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate them.
• Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks.
• Review and adjust project activities and task schedules to meet production schedules.
• Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages.
• Work with the crew to overcome work challenges.
• Resolve or report scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors.
• Ensure completed work meets standards and job specifications.
• Recommend work processes to improve productivity and product quality.
• Inspect completed work and initiate timely resolutions to problems.
• Prepare reports as required and maintain a foreman's log.
• Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily.
• Assist superintendent with determining project production and work progress.
• Assist superintendent with completing quality reports.
• Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records, documenting late starts, early outs, and absences.
• Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, and discipline.
• Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
