About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is seeking an experienced and strategic Fiscal Officer to provide leadership and oversight for the financial, administrative, compliance, and risk management functions that support Extension programs and offices statewide. This is a unique leadership opportunity for a fiscal professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment where financial stewardship, operational excellence, and strategic decision-making directly support the success of educational programs serving communities throughout Nevada. The Fiscal Officer serves as a trusted advisor to Extension leadership and oversees financial operations involving state appropriations, federal funding, grants and contracts, county funding partnerships, gifts, and joint programs with external partners. In addition, the position provides statewide leadership and oversight for risk management matters related to Extension programs, activities, events, and offices throughout Nevada, helping ensure organizational compliance, accountability, and responsible management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of related professional work experience, OR master’s degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience
  • Related Experience: Accounting or Business Management, Financial Management, including responsible experience in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, cash management, and budgeting, Methods of Internal Controls or related field.
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check.

  • Experience leading or coordinating organizational risk management, compliance, safety, or operational oversight functions across multiple locations or programs.
  • Experience managing complex budgets and multiple funding sources, including state, federal, county, grant, and gift funds.
  • Experience overseeing financial operations within a higher education, government, nonprofit, or similarly complex organization.
  • Knowledge of grants and contracts administration, including proposal development, compliance, cost-share, and reporting requirements.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated success leading and supervising professional or administrative staff.
  • Experience developing fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls that strengthen accountability and operational effectiveness.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership, governmental agencies, external partners, and community organizations.
  • Knowledge of land-grant institutions, Cooperative Extension programs, or public sector funding models.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Extension's statewide financial operations and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, NSHE, university, and sponsor regulations.
  • Serve as the primary fiscal resource for Extension leadership, faculty, staff, county offices, and external partners.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and resource allocation efforts.
  • Oversee grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and other funding mechanisms.
  • Monitor county fund balances and provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Direct and support fiscal staff across Northern and Southern Nevada.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for risk management issues associated with Extension programs, activities, facilities, and offices statewide, helping identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational risks.
  • Collaborate with university administrators, government agencies, community partners, and higher education institutions to support Extension's mission and statewide impact.
