About The Position

Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension educators serve as the primary link between the university and the residents of Oklahoma, operating in all 77 counties. OSU Extension, a partnership involving federal, state, and county entities since 1914, is dedicated to disseminating research-based information and promoting its adoption across the state. Extension educators provide vital, research-backed knowledge in areas such as agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community and rural development. This specific position is based in Sallisaw, OK, and supports both the Sequoyah and Muskogee County Extension Offices. The role focuses on leadership in family and consumer sciences (FCS) and provides support for 4-H youth development programs, with approximately 75% of the time dedicated to Sequoyah County and 25% to Muskogee County. The incumbent will function as a collaborative member of the OSU Extension team, engaging local clientele and advisory groups in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of county programs. Due to the communication demands of the role, maintaining a cellular or other electronic communication device is required, and the incumbent will receive compensation to offset the use of their personal device. Extension educators are expected to adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines concerning equal opportunity, civil rights, and affirmative action. It is important to note that Extension educators are hired into the organization, not a specific geographic location, and future relocation may be necessary. The base annual salary for entry-level educators with a bachelor's degree is $45,000, and for those with a master's degree, it is $51,000. The starting salary is determined by education and relevant work experience. Educators hired with only a bachelor's degree are encouraged to pursue a master's degree. Employment continuation is contingent upon need, performance, and available county funding.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health-related field.
• Valid Driver's License.

• Degree must be conferred on or before the agreed-upon start date.
• For candidates without an FCS or Education degree, must be able to successfully obtain specified certifications within two years of employment (certification expenses not covered by employer): take two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management), and pass APK and FCS OSAT within two years.
• For candidates without an FCS degree but with an Education degree, must provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
• For candidates without an FCS degree but alternatively certified in FCS and with three years teaching, no special requirements.
