About The Position

The Extended Programs Counselor is primarily responsible for supporting the Extended Care program by supervising students, carrying out activities and guiding students throughout after school activities. Extended Programs Counselors are expected to encourage learning and good behavior in a safe school environment for students.

Requirements

• 1-2 years related experience in childcare
• Demonstrates creativity, initiative, attention to detail and an ability to work well with a team and/or independently.
• Demonstrates personal integrity, friendliness, patience, fairness, openness, non-defensiveness, sensitivity, flexibility, and enthusiasm
• Ability to apply common sense in dealing with day-to-day and emergency situations.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Ability to respond to questions and solve problems from administrators, teachers, parents, students and visitors.
• Ability to use computer technology, including program database, video chat programs.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Assures students are properly supervised at all times.
• Supervise enrichment activities.
• Manage after school group games.
• Coordinate snack preparation
• Encourage students to participate in scheduled activities
• Communicate well with students, parents, fellow counselors, and supervisor
• Promote a fun attitude and positive atmosphere
• Follow safety guidelines and assure student safety
• Attend school and department meetings, as applicable
• Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff information
• Other duties as assigned.
