About The Position

We are looking for an internal claims expert – Civil Liability for our growing team! As an internal claims expert in civil liability, you will assist the client by phone in the context of their civil liability claim, mainly in property damage files of all kinds (e.g., snow removal vehicle collisions, water damage, contractor work, storage contracts) with a potential of $50,000 and less on average. You will also be called upon to contribute to other types of civil liability files as needed. You will guide the insured through the various stages of their claim: analyze the admissibility of the claim, complete the investigation to determine the potential liability of the insured and/or third parties, assess the damages claimed, and negotiate a settlement with the third party, if applicable. Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented below is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well. Salary range (but not limited to): 69,200 - 84,600

Requirements

Hold a 5A claims adjuster certificate.
Hold a college diploma and/or equivalent or relevant training.
Bilingualism (French / English) – Necessity to handle claims from an English-speaking clientele on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

Be attentive to the client, clearly explain the claim process, answer their questions, and deliver service that exceeds their expectations.
Analyze the client's insurance coverages and clearly explain their protections in relation to the presented claim.
Gather statements of facts on the circumstances of the loss from the insured, third parties, and other stakeholders.
Evaluate the potential liability of the insured and/or third party, supporting the reasoning with relevant and well-substantiated investigative elements.
Assess the reasonableness and admissibility of damages claimed by the insured.
Communicate effectively with the client to inform them of developments.
Accurately annotate and document their file in compliance with company standards and directives.
Effectively negotiate claims with third parties, when appropriate.
Ensure sound management of expenses and external costs.
Collaborate actively with various departments such as assignment, recovery, underwriting, estimation, etc.
Participate in catastrophe response when it occurs.
