About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students who have an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award. The Experiential Education Assistant will gather information to identify students engaged in experiential learning activities and provide administrative support to experiential education projects managed by the Career Center. They will achieve this by reviewing data collected by the university, researching open-source material, and communicating with staff, faculty, and students. In addition, the Assistant will provide administrative support for experiential learning management. This position reports to and assists the Experiential Learning Specialist.

Requirements

  • Incoming or current AU student with an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
  • Must be residing in DC, Maryland, or Virginia during the period of employment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to manage large data sets.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Dedication to ethical decision-making, data integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new software and/or technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of different backgrounds and positions.
  • Ability to adhere to strict protocol/standard operating procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, filters, tables, and charts.
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn, Handshake, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with career services and various forms of experiential learning (including internships, study abroad, academic research, leadership activities, volunteering).

Responsibilities

  • Collecting data from reports and managing the data in Microsoft Excel, including categorizing data, curating outreach and research lists, and standardizing written responses.
  • Resolving conflicting data points using critical thinking skills.
  • Researching via information sources such as social media (primarily LinkedIn) and Handshake.
  • Configuring and assessing Excel data sets to fit internal reporting standards.
  • Maintaining clean data records and easy-to-navigate documentation in our shared drive and in Microsoft Teams.
  • Managing incoming information and applications related to internship support and engagement.
  • Entering data according to standards and criteria.
  • Creating reports with visual and numeric components.
  • Creating social media content.
  • Requesting data from faculty and staff across campus via email.
  • Managing the [email protected] email box, responding to standard inquiries and elevating issues as necessary.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
