About The Position

Engages customers in the Exploration Commons Makerspace and assists with their design and fabrication needs in person, on the phone, via email, or through social media. Develops and implements instructional programming for the Makerspace. The Experience Design Specialist II – Makerspace position represents a higher level of skill, responsibility, and independence than the Experience Design Specialist I – Makerspace. Facilitates and manages use of the meeting rooms. Provides administrative and clerical support as needed.

  • Experience Design Specialist I: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience Design Specialist I: At least one year of directly related experience with makerspace equipment
  • Experience Design Specialist I: Six months or more of customer service or retail experience
  • Experience Design Specialist II: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience Design Specialist II: One to two years of directly related experience with makerspace equipment
  • Experience Design Specialist II: Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science
  • Obtain Food Protection Manager certification within the first year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Delivers exceptional customer service by assisting customers with their EC-related questions, including but not limited to, troubleshooting of all EC equipment.
  • Primarily assigned to the Makerspace but collaborates with and supports the Teaching Kitchen operations as necessary.
  • Plans, prepares, and provides training and programs on Exploration Commons resources for individuals and groups, ensuring safe operation.
  • Provides project management for long-term, larger-scale projects or initiatives.
  • Operates all audiovisual equipment in all meeting rooms.
  • Maintains Exploration Commons equipment, including basic maintenance and repair, installing and updating software and applications, etc.
  • Maintains 3D printers and supports centralized 3D printing service.
  • Maintains and provides systemwide support for maker equipment (3D printers and VR gear).
  • Creates content and examples to showcase applications of new technology at CCPL.
  • Provides supervision and oversight for volunteers and interns.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through participation in library teams, committees, outreach, and training activities.
  • Learns new skills and technologies to retain proficiency in areas of expertise via online and in-person training.
  • Works with community partners for program and content creation.
  • Maintains high quality standards of products and services.
  • Communicates library policies and procedures to customers as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.
