About The Position

This is a temporary position for an Exhibit Technician. The role involves working in an active exhibit, shop, and campus environment. The technician will be responsible for various tasks related to exhibit fabrication and maintenance, requiring a range of trade skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. A commitment to safety and mission alignment is also important.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a trade school, technical program, or college degree in construction trades, exhibit or scenic fabrication, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of carpentry, concrete work, and drywall.
  • Ability to execute clean, finished work to design specifications.
  • Working knowledge of large power tools (table saws, chop saws, band saws, drill presses).
  • Skill with small power tools, hand tools, and common hardware.
  • Ability to work independently with general guidance.
  • Ability to take initiative and develop creative, outside-the-box solutions.
  • Strong team orientation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally across departments and with outside vendors.
  • Unwavering commitment to animal, guest, and staff safety.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Comfort working at heights using ladders and lifts.
  • Comfort working in low or confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to wet, humid, cold, hot, and noisy conditions as well as occasional contact with solvents, cleaning agents, fumes, odors, and dust.
  • Close, distance, color, and depth vision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and by phone or radio.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with low-voltage AV equipment and basic electrical components.
  • Interest in marine conservation, education, or museum/aquarium environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate large power tools (table saws, chop saws, band saws, drill presses) and skill with small power tools, hand tools, and common hardware.
  • Work independently with general guidance, take initiative, and develop creative solutions to exhibit challenges.

  • Ensure animal, guest, and staff safety.
  • Perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Work at heights using ladders and lifts.
