Executive Vice President of Emergency Response & Preparedness

About The Position

Based in San Antonio, Texas, the Executive Vice President of Emergency Response & Preparedness is a senior operational leader at a fully funded, mission-driven nonprofit emergency management organization. The role runs the response enterprise, serves as second-in-command and principal advisor to the President, leads the organization in the President’s absence, and is part of succession planning for the top position. It is a high-profile, high-tempo role intended for a mid-career leader; it is explicitly not a 40-hour position for someone winding down a career. When disasters occur, the organization deploys medical teams, shelters, mobile command, and a reservist force of roughly 1,000 professionals that can scale for major events. The EVP directs operational readiness and response, preparedness and planning, logistics and resource readiness, and development of the reservist cadre and operational leaders. Within 90 days, the EVP is expected to own day-to-day operational decisions so the President is no longer drawn into tactics. Within a year, operations are expected to run competently and predictably, freeing the President to focus on growth and external relationships.
