About The Position

peopleCare is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and visionary Executive Director to lead their recently redeveloped home in Kitchener, Ontario. This role reports to the Vice President, Long-Term Care. The Executive Director will be a catalyst for positive change, driving operational excellence and championing a culture of innovation, engagement, and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include fostering employee engagement, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting the long-term success and sustainability of the home through effective operational leadership, recruitment, and team development. The role involves visionary leadership, strategic execution, fostering innovation, building external partnerships, and transforming resident and family experiences. Operational duties include overseeing operational readiness, resident admission strategy, policy implementation, leading teams for exceptional care, monitoring performance, and analyzing operational data. Financial management includes fiscal accountability and driving cost-efficiency. Compliance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Ministry of Health guidelines is essential, serving as the primary liaison with government agencies. The role also focuses on building a high-performance culture rooted in accountability, transparency, and trust, and driving engagement through inclusive, empowered, and collaborative teams. Leadership and talent management involve leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team in a unionized environment, championing leadership development, and ensuring effective staffing, retention, and succession strategies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive senior leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and lead strategic community partnerships that enhance the delivery of innovative, person-centered services for residents, families, and team members—positioning the home as a collaborative leader in the sector
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with creativity, vision, and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of long-term care legislation, funding models, and healthcare trends.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic oversight with operational agility.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health or social services
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check required.

  • Champion a bold and forward-thinking vision for the home, developing and implementing a strategic roadmap that reflects peopleCare’s mission and values.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans focused on resident and family experience, community engagement, occupancy, brand reputation, and risk mitigation.
  • Foster a culture that embraces innovation, anticipates future needs, and supports the development of progressive care models and integrated service delivery.
  • Cultivate partnerships that extend beyond the walls of the home to build networks with healthcare, academic, and community organizations.
  • Empower teams to create exceptional, person-centered experiences for residents, families, and staff.
  • Provide strategic leadership in operational readiness planning, ensuring all systems, staffing, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements are in place for a seamless and successful home opening.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a comprehensive resident admission strategy.
  • Lead implementation of policies and processes in alignment with legislative requirements and industry best practices.
  • Lead and inspire teams to deliver exceptional care and service and continuous improvement in support of residents’ well-being and quality of life.
  • Monitor performance using quality indicators and continuous quality improvement practices.
  • Analyze operational data to drive decisions, mitigate risks, and enhance outcomes.
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability through effective management of budgets and business metrics.
  • Drive cost-efficiency while maintaining high standards of care and service.
