Oversees the total operation of a YMCA branch, including membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies. The Executive Director aligns the work of staff and volunteers to the branch and Association’s strategic plan. They establish and implement an annual operating plan, working with staff, volunteers, and metropolitan management to develop goals, timelines, and expected results. The role involves effectively operating the facility and all program activities, managing the facility daily, and ensuring smooth operations of regular activities and special programs. They must identify and correct under-performing areas, representing and promoting the YMCA in the local community, and developing positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. This position directs the financial development activities of the branch, achieving fund-raising goals through a year-round program that includes the annual current support campaign, donor acquisition, stewardship, special events, planned giving, and capital gifts. A structured major donor cultivation strategy is required, yielding a minimum number of major gifts annually to support branch needs. A long-range capital development plan is also part of the role, ensuring facilities are maintained in excellent condition and building the branch endowment. The Executive Director oversees the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff, identifying career candidates and supporting their development. They manage and monitor the branch operating budget, ensuring targets are met or exceeded, and direct branch strategic planning efforts. High-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies are developed and directed, modeling relationship-building skills in all interactions. The role serves as staff officer to the branch Board of Managers, fostering a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and ensuring the safety and maintenance of facilities. Marketing and communication efforts are directed to effectively communicate benefits to the community. The Executive Director is a member of Y management, supporting overall YMCA objectives, attending required meetings and trainings, and upholding YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. They must demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values, along with competencies in cause-driven leadership areas.
