About The Position

The Executive Director (4380) at the Pasadena Sierra Madre YMCA is responsible for overseeing the total operation of a YMCA branch. This includes managing membership, marketing, programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and community relations. The role involves collaborating with community agencies and ensuring the branch aligns with the YMCA's strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business, or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement.
  • Ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Align the work of staff and volunteers to the branch and Association’s strategic plan.
  • Establish and implement an annual operating plan, including goals, timelines, and expected results, in collaboration with staff, volunteers, and metropolitan management.
  • Effectively operate the facility and all program activities, managing the facility daily and ensuring smooth operations of regular activities and special programs.
  • Establish appropriate management tracking methods to ensure effective branch performance in all key areas.
  • Identify and correct areas where the branch is under-performing, organizing task forces as necessary.
  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community, developing positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develop, maintain, and model collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
  • Direct the financial development activities of the branch and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Develop and support a year-round fundraising program, including annual current support campaigns, donor acquisition, stewardship, special events, planned giving, and capital gifts.
  • Support and engage in a structured major donor cultivation strategy to secure major gifts for operating, capital, and endowment needs.
  • Develop and support a long-range capital development plan, including needs and sources of funds, to maintain facilities.
  • Build the branch endowment by increasing the number of members making irrevocable gift commitments.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff, including recruiting and hiring using screening tools and panel interviews.
  • Ensure staff members have development plans and that funding for training is allocated and used appropriately.
  • Identify career candidates and work on an active plan to support their development and advancement.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the branch operating budget, ensuring budget targets are met or exceeded.
  • Direct branch strategic planning efforts and develop the annual operating plan.
  • Develop and control long and short-term budgets to support the strategic plan.
  • Provide adequate cash balances and net assets to fund reserves and maintain fixed assets.
  • Develop and direct high-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies.
  • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Serve as staff officer to the branch Board of Managers, ensuring a satisfying board experience.
  • Lead board development efforts to build capacity for achieving strategic goals.
  • Ensure committees have appropriate staff leadership, benchmarks, and charts of work aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Enable board participation in strategic plan implementation by providing progress monitoring information.
  • Facilitate the ongoing evaluation of the Board's effectiveness and performance.
  • Foster a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs that support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Direct branch marketing and communication efforts to effectively communicate benefits to the community.
  • Serve as a member of Y management and support overall YMCA objectives.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values in all dealings.
  • Demonstrate competencies in Cause Driven Leadership areas: mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness, and personal growth.
