About The Position

This is a Skilled Service position with full State of Maryland benefits. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is a world-class financial and policy organization, and works at the cutting edge of affordable housing, home-ownership, economic development and neighborhood revitalization. We manager over $3 billion in single-family and multi-family assets, and provide financial support and critical programs to families, communities, non-profits, businesses and local governments throughout the state. The Office of the Secretary has an opening for an Executive Assistant. This position reports directly to the Chief of Staff and provides high-level administrative and operational support to the Executive Team. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Four years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Must document eligibility to work in the U.S. upon hire.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting senior executives, principals, or leadership teams for federal, state and local public officials and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex calendars, coordinating meetings across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in independently drafting, revising, and formatting a range of professional written communications (e.g., emails, meeting agendas, memoranda, letters, and talking points) and tailoring messaging to audience and purpose to support effective business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manages complex and evolving executive calendars, aligns scheduling with strategic priorities, and coordinates high-level meetings and engagements.
  • Drafts and manages sensitive correspondence with the Governor’s Office, DHCD leadership, senior staff, and federal, state, and local officials, as well as external stakeholders.
  • Serves as a key liaison for the Office of the Secretary, facilitates meetings, committees, and workgroups, and plays a critical role in ensuring leadership is prepared, informed, and positioned to make effective decisions.
  • Exercises strong judgment, discretion, and initiative in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
