About The Position

This co-op position provides the opportunity to offer engineering expertise in the design, fabrication, and integration of harness systems, and to represent the harness discipline on a project. The role involves investigating, planning, designing, and developing harnesses to meet various technical requirements. This includes researching, selecting, and procuring appropriate connectors, back-shells, contacts, wire, shielding, and cable construction to meet environmental requirements. The engineer will develop and generate harness system block diagrams and wire diagrams for production release, participate in design reviews, and prepare harness assembly instructions and test procedures. The position also involves providing guidance to the electrical team on electrical system requirements, working in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple projects, and managing end-to-end ownership of the electrical wiring and interconnect system. Responsibilities include ensuring the design meets system-level electrical requirements, performing electrical trade studies, and analyzing and mitigating electrical risks. The role requires applying knowledge of SWaP for power, network, and communications systems and designs.

Requirements

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Must be returning to school at the end of the internship to continue academic studies for at least one quarter or semester.
• Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities; U.S. clearance eligibility may be required depending on program.
• Ability to complete an in-person 16-24 week internship in one of our offices in winter 2027.

Nice To Haves

• Build 3D routed harness data files applying NX Cabling and Siemens Capital Harness.
• Experience with or proficient in 3D CAD wire harness routing using Siemens NX.
• Able to read and generate formboard drawings in 2D CAD for production (Siemens Capital).
• Familiarity with common electrical bus interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS422, RS232, 1553).
• Familiarity with existing applicable harness standards as well as MIL-STD requirements.
• Experience reading wire block interconnect diagrams and wire diagrams.
• Exceptional organization and communication skills (both written and oral).
• Experienced and familiar with aircraft avionics module vendors and avionics component suppliers.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC principles.

Responsibilities

• Represent the harness discipline on a project.
• Investigate, plan, design, and develop harnesses to meet various technical requirements.
• Research, select, and procure appropriate connectors, back-shells, contacts, wire, shielding, and cable construction.
• Develop and generate harness system block diagrams and wire diagrams for production release.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input.
• Prepare harness assembly instructions and test procedures.
• Provide guidance to the electrical team in identifying electrical system requirements.
• Work in a fast-paced environment supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer-operated hardware.
• Concurrently manage involvement in multiple projects at various stages.
• Own end-to-end of the electrical wiring and interconnect system, including power distribution, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity.
• Ensure the design meets system-level electrical requirements for voltage, current, bandwidth, redundancy, EMI/EMC.
• Perform electrical trade studies for wire gauge, shielding, connector selection, and topology.
• Analyze and mitigate electrical risks such as voltage drop, crosstalk, EMI susceptibility, and thermal effects.
• Apply knowledge of SWaP for power, network, and communications systems and designs.
