About The Position

The On-Call Event Specialist provides supervision and day-of logistical support for events held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The role monitors event activity and helps ensure museum policies are followed by event planners, guests, and third-party vendors. The specialist acts as a liaison among the events team, museum departments, vendors, and groups renting the facility, and works flexible hours from the start to the finish of events. The position reports to the Event Operations Manager. The position is fully onsite in an office and museum-wide setting in San Francisco. It is a union position subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Compensation is $31.60 per hour starting, with a stated position rate of $37.93 per hour.

Requirements

At least one year of event management or on-site venue experience.
Interest in professional event planning and/or hospitality.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Experience at a cultural institution is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide logistical support for internal events, special events, and rental events.
Supervise vendor and equipment load-in, installation, and load-out in event spaces, loading docks, staging areas, greenrooms, and catering preparation areas.
Communicate clearly with museum staff, guests, and vendors.
Refer clients and guests to the Events Operations Manager.
Set up, clear, and restore event spaces, including moving carts, dollies, signage, and stanchions.
Oversee the safety of guests, vendors, staff, and the museum while providing excellent customer service.
Assist with opening and closing the museum for events, including directing caterers and vendors.
Assist with coat check, wayfinding, and freight elevator operation, and support the Event Manager as directed.
Represent the museum professionally to guests, clients, vendors, and event planners.
Proactively assist the Event Manager with duties to support a positive experience for museum guests and staff.
Perform other event-related duties as assigned.
