Evening Cook
About The Position
Great Western Dining Service is seeking a Cook at its North Central Texas College location in Gainesville, Texas. The Cook prepares meals and follows recipes and production information while working efficiently in a kitchen environment. The role involves using a range of ingredients, cooking techniques, and commercial kitchen equipment, while maintaining food presentation, sanitation, and safety standards. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 1–8 PM. The position requires continuous standing and walking or other mobility for up to eight hours a day, as well as reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and frequently lifting or moving up to 30 pounds.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a cook.
- Knowledge of cooking procedures and methods such as grilling, baking, and boiling.
- Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow sanitation procedures.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Very good communication skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform other mobility for up to eight hours a day.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, and pull, and frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Set up workstations with needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping and peeling vegetables and cutting meat.
- Prepare, portion, and cook food for various meal periods or special events.
- Follow basic recipes and production information.
- Dress dishes before serving to ensure good presentation.
- Keep the kitchen sanitized and orderly.
- Store food and other items properly.
- Follow company HACCP and safety policies.
