About The Position

This course provides an advanced practical and theoretical overview to teaching language literacy/English at the intermediate levels, with an intentional focus on grade 9/10 language and literacy teaching. A variety of topics will be explored including: (1) engaging students in active inquiry using multiple forms of literacy; (2) approaches to teaching; (3) understanding the young adolescent literacy learner; and (4) professional leadership. The successful candidate will work with the course lead in order to provide consistency across sections.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education or related discipline
  • Bachelor of Education and/or K – 12 Teaching Certification
  • K – 12 teaching experience in Language and literacy
  • Education or related content area specialization
  • Language and Literacy specialization

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in education or related discipline
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in teacher education
  • Teaching language and literacy in Ontario schools at the intermediate level
  • School leadership experience in language and literacy education
