About The Position

The Estimator is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and preparing detailed cost information to maximize cost-effectiveness during the preconstruction process. The Estimator will visit jobsites to gather necessary information, analyze proposals, specifications, and construction documents to thoroughly understand the project. The Estimator will work closely with Project Managers to coordinate and oversee the bid process. The Estimator then determines the time, labor, construction materials, and product costs for projects and communicates these requirements to clients.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or at a minimum, an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management, or a related field or equivalent field experience.
Organized and detail oriented, with an ability to properly manage their time by prioritizing tasks.
Analytical and possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and writing, and be able to interact and collaborate with coworkers, clients, and outside vendors.
Self-motivated and committed.
Proficient, or capable of becoming proficient, in various software applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), Bluebeam, SmartBid and On Screen Takeoff, etc., and have the capability to learn new software applications specific to the industry, such as those necessary for estimating and scheduling, as well as project management and project controls.

Responsibilities

Evaluate proposals, specifications, and construction documents to understand the project as a whole
Work closely with the construction project manager to oversee and coordinate the bid process for vendors and subcontractors
Estimate time, labor, construction materials, and product costs to determine overall cost for construction projects
Produce written proposals, cost estimates, budgets, and updates for clients and project managers
Visit construction sites to obtain necessary client requirement information
Provide accurate quantity takeoff information to provide a detailed list of materials and assess the total construction costs
Follow up with clients on submitted proposals and budgets
