About The Position

The ESL Instructor will be responsible for planning, preparing, and providing high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for adult learners at varying levels of English language proficiency. This role involves developing and implementing lessons aligned with state standards, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, assessing student needs, and maintaining accurate records. The instructor will also incorporate curriculum materials to enhance employability and citizenship skills, collaborate with adult education staff, and ensure compliance with all relevant district, program, state, federal, and grant requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technology and online learning platforms.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications, including Google applications and video conferencing platforms.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to select materials and methods appropriate to diverse physical, emotional, and cognitive characteristics of adult learners.
  • Ability to maintain student records and comply with program reporting requirements.
  • Ability to build rapport with adult students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Education, Adult Education, English, ESL, or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and provide high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction for adult learners at varying levels of English language proficiency.
  • Develop and implement lessons that align with state standards and support measurable gains.
  • Create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, persistence and achievement.
  • Assess student academic skill levels, learning needs,and educational goals using approved assessment instruments and instructional practices.
  • Provide direct instruction to adult learners, as assigned by the assistant director.
  • Utilize instructional materials, methods, techniques, and resources to assist students in acquiring basic literacy and mathematics skills.
  • Incorporate curriculum materials that will increase knowledge of employability skills and responsible citizenship skills.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records; grading, attendance, curricular needs, career goals, etc.
  • Document student contacts/communication, including information about progress, absences, and social/emotional needs.
  • Assist with student assessment; maintain training as required to conduct standardized assessments.
  • Attend staff meetings and other professional meetings as requested.
  • Maintain a personal commitment to lifelong learning and enhancement of professional abilities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all adult education staff to increase awareness of program strengths, needs, and changes.
  • Comply with all district, program, state, federal, and grant requirements related to adult education services, student confidentiality, and reporting procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required.
