About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting in the daily management and operation of the Adult Education Program. The role involves supporting staff, planning and delivering effective instruction, and creating a positive learning environment for adult learners. The Assistant Director will also supervise learners and staff, contribute to curriculum development, and monitor student performance and program outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Educational Leadership, Adult Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field
  • Minimum five years of successful experience in teaching, administrative, and supervisory fields, preferably in secondary, postsecondary, or adult education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional practices, and program administration
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and utilize results to improve program performance
  • Ability to select materials and methods appropriate to adult learners' diverse physical, emotional, and cognitive characteristics
  • Must be able to accept cultural and ethnic differences and adjust teaching techniques if necessary to create a non-threatening atmosphere and foster freedom of expression
  • An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff in the daily management and operation of the Adult Education Program
  • Assist with planning, preparing, and delivering effective instruction to adult learners
  • Create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, persistence and achievement
  • Understand the underlying philosophy for adult education that matches adult learners' intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs
  • Supervise and assume responsibility for the adult learners and professional staff
  • Assist instructional personnel in curriculum development, including providing leadership in curriculum research, culturally relevant pedagogy, planning, and evaluation, and submitting new courses to Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) for approval
  • Develop and provide activities and programs for instructional improvement, including in-service sessions, teacher orientations, and curriculum workshops and seminars
  • Supervise implementation of restorative practices
  • Attend regional and state professional meetings as requested
  • Serve as a representative on adult education committees
  • Monitor student performance data and program outcomes to ensure continuous improvement and performance metrics
  • Monitor classroom instruction and provide coaching and support to instructional staff
  • Perform other duties as required
