About The Position

Mount Dora Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate ER Veterinary Technician to join their Emergency Room team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and have a passion for providing high-quality care to animals in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Professional veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience is required.
  • Comfort with anesthesia, diagnostics, patient restraint, venipuncture, and nursing care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • A communicator who builds trust with clients and teammates.
  • A steady, reliable teammate available for weekends, late evenings, and overnight shifts.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Collaborative team player to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.

Nice To Haves

  • CVT or licensed vet tech credentials are preferred, but not required.
  • Previous vet med ER experience heavily preferred.
  • Critical care anesthesia experience, including operating room and ventilator management.
  • Strong proficiency in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • High level of comfort with medical math and dosage calculations.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and ongoing education.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload with multiple patients simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming urgent and emergency patients with calm, confident technical care.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples, run in-house diagnostics, and support imaging workflows.
  • Assist with digital radiology, ultrasound, and advanced diagnostics.
  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients with varying levels of stability.
  • Prepare for surgery, assist doctors, and monitor anesthesia with attention to detail.
  • Administer medications, support treatment plans, and communicate clearly with clients.
  • Partner with doctors and fellow vet tech team members to keep patient flow smooth.
  • Help shape best practices as our emergency care model continues to grow.
